Supervision skills

This course will look at the purpose of workplace supervision, how it can be used to motivate staff and volunteers, what supervisors can do beforehand to prepare yourselves and how you can become more effective. It will also address problems with performance and how to deal with them during supervisions.

Appraisal skills

This course will introduce the principles and benefits of appraisal. Through a range of activities and group work participants will practise using tools and techniques for appraisals with staff. The event is designed for those responsible for the appraisal of paid staff and volunteers

Essentials of volunteer management

A course to introduce participants to the principles and practice of volunteer management. The course will cover:

- The benefits and drawbacks of working with volunteers
- The motivations for volunteering
- Identifying and maximising roles for volunteers
- Recruitment and selection methods that work
- Things to consider in supporting and managing volunteers
- How to recognise the contribution volunteers make

First time managers

If you are in the early stages of managing others or considering becoming a manager, this two day course is for you. You will have the opportunity to explore management issues including balancing life and work, assertiveness, managing conflict, teams and being part of a team and setting goals for your future.

Effective induction

An essential guide to making induction relevant and accessible for people new to your organisation or project. The course will look at:

- designing the induction process, techniques for passing on information
- making the induction stimulating and enjoyable
- how to liven up a flagging induction system already in use.

It will be useful for anyone with responsibility for any element of the induction of new paid staff, volunteers, and management committee members.
